Doug Cabana has served on the Morris County Board of Commissioners since 1997. He is currently running for re-election, bringing nearly three decades of experience to continue delivering safe communities, quality services, and stable taxes for every town in Morris County.
Before his current duties, Doug served as Mayor of Boonton Township and on the Boonton Township governing body, where he launched youth and public safety programs and earned respect for fiscal responsibility. Over the years, as Commissioner, he has held leadership roles including Director of the Board and Deputy Director. He also served as President of the New Jersey Association of Counties, helping shape policy on shared services and county governance.
“Being elected isn’t just about title, it’s about trust: trust that we’ll deliver what people need, listen when they speak, and protect what’s important.”
Doug served 11 years on the Boonton Township governing body, including six years as Mayor. He launched the township’s D.A.R.E. program with the local police and built a record of fiscal responsibility and community programs.
Doug won election to the Board of Freeholders (now Commissioners) and has been re-elected ever since, making him the longest-serving Commissioner in Morris County history.
Doug served multiple terms as Director (2000, 2001, 2017, 2018, 2019) and Deputy Director of the Board. In 2006, he became President of the New Jersey Association of Counties, where he championed shared services and county efficiency reforms.
Doug has kept the county tax rate flat for six straight years, invested in County College of Morris and workforce training, modernized 911 and emergency communications, and preserved more than 20,000 acres of parks and open space.
